DescriptionAurelia, the subject of this portrait, was a noted model in Rome. Her thick black hair and dark dress is reflective of her nickname ‘La Cornacchia' or ‘The Crow’. However, this is far from being a dark, sombre painting. The sitter’s broad smile, as well as the bright highlights and richly coloured impasto are typical of Mancini’s effusive style. On the reverse of this picture is another oil sketch of the same model in a different pose.
