DescriptionHead and shoulders of a man (George Russell) almost full-facing, turned slightly to the left, wearing glasses and a long bushy beard. Mary Duncan (1885 - 1960?) was born in England and studied in London and Paris. She was in Ireland from about 1908 to 1916 and was friends with Estella Solomons. She first exhibited at the RHA in 1910. As a member of the Gaelic League, she adopted the irish version of her name. About 1911, she executed portrait etchings of James Stephens, Seumas O'Sullivan and George Russell, which were noted favourably by Thomas Bodkin. The following year, she held a one-man show in Dublin. She returned to live in London after the 1916 Rising. She spent her final years in Lynwood Home in Mousehole.
