DescriptionIn this typical Corot painting are featured, tall trees on the right and a pond on the left; in the background, a misty landscape reflects in the still water and in the foreground are two little figures: a fisherman and an old lady (?) walking in a path. This monochromatic landscape is dated, between 1865 and 1870, by Robaut (1905, vol. III, p.124, n°1600, repr.) who saw it at Arnold and Tripp's in Paris, in 1892. Its misty atmosphere reminds Souvenir de Riva of the same period, a remote souvenir of the landscape painted in 1834, on Corot's second trip to Italy. But this one was probably painted in Ville d'Avray where Corot, who was also travelling around Paris with Daubigny, was then spending half of his time.
In the left foreground a fisherman sits with his rod outstretched; the lake, bordered with trees stretches away from him; to the right a figure on a forest path.
