DescriptionOn the left foreground, three figures walk along a path which winds its way into the middle distance where another figure can be seen. Bare trees and bushes are on the right. This drawing, dated c.1870-1874, was made Later in Corot's life when he used more charcoal, smudging it in order to soften the contours, though suggesting the poetic atmosphere of this composition. This Landscape with Figures, bearing the Corot sale stamp, cannot be identified in the 1875 sale catalogue (reproduced in Robaut's catalogue with his own drawings) as hundreds of drawings, without titles nor images, are gathered from number 558 to 568. As dimensions match, this is probably canvas (sic) n°282, untitled Landscape with figures, exhibited in Dublin in 1904, in a room with drawings.
In this monochromatic landscape drawing is a low hill sloping up towards the left. There is a single bare tree on the right, and three figures saunter along a path on the left foreground, which winds it way into the middle distance, where another figure can be seen. Scattered across the low horizon are more trees and bushes.
