DescriptionPhilip Wilson Steer studied at the École des Beaux Arts, Paris and was hugely enthusiastic about French Impressionism. Upon his return to England,
he combined the lessons in light, colour and Impressionist technique he absorbed in France with the English tradition of landscape painting derived from Gainsborough, Constable and Turner. His landscapes revel in depicting magnificent vistas of open countryside with an emphasis on the greens and yellows of sunshine glistening on foliage after rain. (JO'D)
