DescriptionThis watercolour shows a coastal scene. It is a depiction of Portsdown Hill, which is a long chalk hill overlooking Portsmouth, in Hampshire, England. In the foreground on the left is a grassy patch, lime green in colour, with a tree bending in the wind. Behind the tree is an indistinct brown building. At the edge of the grassy patch is a small wooden bridge crossing over to a sandy beach. There is also a sandy area attached to the grass on the left in front of the bridge. In the water that passes under the bridge are two small boats and some figures. As with other works by Steer, the sky covers almost two-thirds of the overall picture. The sky is filled with dark and light greyish brown clouds. On View
