DescriptionThis is a watercolour showing a coastal scene. In the foreground are ships close to a wooden pier: some of them appear to be moored to the pier. Beyond the pier are some buildings with red roofs. The focus of the picture, as with other works by Steer, is the sky, which encompasses two-thirds of the image. Starting from the left and moving across to the right is a huge cloud mass painted in tones of light and dark brown. The lighter tones are reflected in the water below.
