DescriptionThis coastal scene is executed in watercolour. In the foreground is a grassy beach that has been revealed by the tide going out. There is an area of water in the middle distance with a small sailboat gently moving across the centre of the picture. Beyond the water is a low-lying shoreline covered in lime green grass stretching right across the image. There is a two-storey house with a pitched roof on the far right. Steer's main interest was in rendering the sky, which in this case is filled with grey clouds, highlighted with white and a wash of blue emerging at the top of the composition.
