DescriptionOliver Sheppard was Professor of Sculpture at the RHA. His most famous sculpture The Death of Cuchulain which was begun in 1911 was subsequently chosen for the memorial of the 1916 Rising and placed in the G.P.O in 1935. His bust of the Fenian John O'Leary (1903) is among other examples of his work in this gallery. Sean Keating described Sheppard as 'scholarly, kindly, with a distaste for ostentation.' (JO'D)On View
