DescriptionThe idea of energy – creative, physical, spiritual – is present in much of Beuys’s work and informed his unorthodox use of materials. In Ireland, he sandwiched peat briquettes and coal with butter in works known as Irish Energies. Those pictured were shown at the Bank of Ireland during Rosc ’77. Beuys had a particular attraction to fossil fuels, which are created over vast time scales. His interest in our connection to the environment led him to co-found the German Green Party.On View
