DescriptionBeuys had a longstanding interest in James Joyce and his experimentation with language. The artist responded to Joyce’s Ulysses by producing Joseph Beuys Extends Ulysses by Six Further Chapters on Behalf of James Joyce (1957 and 1961), six notebooks containing 355 drawings in pencil and watercolour. Here Beuys visits Sandycove, the setting for the opening sequence of Joyce’s Ulysses.
