Joseph Beuys

Born in the lower Rhine region, Germany in 1921. Beuys loved visiting Ireland and in 1974 toured the country with an exhibition of drawings and conducted lectures. Beuys was very much aware of the political situation at the time and in a lecture at the Hugh Lane Gallery he demonstrated this by drawing diagrams and writing relevant terms on a blackboard. His creation was offered as a solution to the crisis, he saw art as therapy. He died in 1986 in Düsseldorf.
