DescriptionThe French historical painter Vincent Leon Pallière (1787-1820) had a studio in the Villa Medici in Rome and in a painting by Jean Alaux (1786-1864) he is depicted in his studio there in 1817 before an open window playing the guitar surrounded by prints and casts. Pallière remained in Rome for five years where he painted subjects from Classical history. Alaux also painted the studio of J.A.D. Ingres who also had a studio in Rome around this time. (JO'D)
