DescriptionWilliam Orpen made many sketches of working people in the years before the First World War, including scenes from Liberty Hall soup kitchens and of James Larkin during the Lockout. Here Orpen captures an atmospheric view of early twentieth century street life where a woman is shown carrying a heavily laden laundry basket on her head while above her are billowing sheets on full washing lines.
