DescriptionThis painting by Liliane Tomasko is one of a series that began with her taking photographs of her surroundings, particularly the unmade bed. She has said, “I like the metaphorical quality of the crumpled sheets: the body, passion, restlessness, sleep, the pattern of days, even to make each day as we make the bed.” While the painting can be appreciated for the formal qualities of colour and texture, the folds and curves also evoke the sense of an absent figure. In the words of the painter, “They are not representations as such, but I really don’t think of myself as an abstract artist.”
