DescriptionPrimate is one of a series of sculptures of animals by Daphne Wright that explores the complex relationship between humans and our environment, highlighting the extinction of animals and the current biodiversity crisis. Cast at a Primate Research Centre, Wright’s sculpture of a rhesus monkey displayed lying on its side is unsettling, yet affecting. The soft flesh of its face, hands and chest is made solid and covered in a fine layer of embroidered ‘hair’, recalling the living animal.
