DescriptionThis seascape painting shows a number of moored barges in the foreground, while in the middle distance can be seen larger sailing ships and a single steam ship with two stacks in the centre. To the left of the sailing ships is a sand bank with a building on it. On the horizon is a thin streak of light pink. The sky is a green-grey, which is reflected in the sea.

" The artist was born at Christchurch, Hampshire, and studied in London, where he was closely associated with such men as Fred. Walker, Sir J.D. Linton, and William Morris. A poetic painter of the Impressionist school, he devoted himself chiefly to river and marine subjects in the manner of Whistler." Municipal Gallery of Art Illustrated Catalogue 1908.
