DescriptionFantin-Latour is mostly known for his flower pieces such as the fine Blush Roses in a Glass in this Collection. He also painted many group portraits of his contemporaries such as A Studio in Les Batignolles 1870 which showed Manet surrounded by emerging painters of the day including Monet and others from the Impressionist School. Like Manet, Fantin-Latour was determined to depict himself as a respectable member of society in contrast to the perception many visitors to the official Salon had of the these revolutionary artists.
