DescriptionThis is a half-length portrait of Margaret Clarke's sister, Minnie Clarke, wife of Walter Clarke (Harry Clarke's brother) and mother of Terence Clarke, stained glass artist. She is wearing a white blouse, a black cardigan and an orange and black striped turban. She is set against a dull bottle green background.

This is one of a number of portraits of Minnie (Mary) Clarke. She was the younger sister of the artist. In 1913 and 1914 she accompanied Margaret Clarke and Harry Clarke, Sean Keating and Harry's older brother Walter on holidays to Inisheer. Keating described Mary as "beautiful creature, as loveable as she was lovely, qualites not often found in the same woman." In June 1915 she married Walter Clarke, who, like Harry, worked in their father's eccesiastical decoration firm.
