DescriptionIn the foreground are three figures in Chinese costume. To the right a boy with an oriental hat, to the left a man with a pigtail and in the centre a girl with a blue shawl and red scarf holds a baby. In the background is a river, across which are dim buildings and figures. The sky is filled with pink misty clouds.

'George Chinnery RHA, at one time resident in Dublin, and in 1798 was elected a member of the RHA. He exhibited portraits at the RA in London from 1791 - 1846. He showed much ability in etching portraits, and made spirited sketches of scenes in India and China, where he lived for nearly 50 years. He died at Macao about 1850' Sarah Cecilia Harrison, Municipal Gallery of Modern Art Illustrated Catalogue, 1908.
