DescriptionThere were two daughters in the Yeats family: Elizabeth (Lolly) and Susan (Lily) and both were active promoters and participants in the arts and crafts movement in Ireland. This work is a portrait of Lily dating from c. 1877 and shows her in a relaxed pose with her arms behind her head, gazing directly at the viewer. Flowers feature prominently in this work, in the foreground, on her headdress and, appropriately, what appear to be lilies in the background.
