DescriptionBrigid Ganly's father was Dermod O'Brien, artist and President of the RHA. Not only a painter, Ganly also illustrated books and undertook mural commissions. She grew up on the family farm in Co. Limerick and moved to Dublin in 1920. In 1936 the artist married Andrew Ganly, depicted here in The Dramatist in an intimate and relaxed pose as he reads in his study. Her married status did not deter Ganly in her artistic career although there was a change in her subject matter from landscapes to inspiration closer to home in the form of portraits of her children and interior scenes.
