DescriptionThis is a monoprint on paper. Rouault has used drypoint and aquatint along with painted tone. It appears that ink painted on the plate created the outline of Christ and the background tone, therefore this element cannot not be reprinted, whereas the drypoint line and the aquatint tone can be. Having both a repeatable (or reprintable) element and an unrepeatable element to a print classifies it as a monoprint.

This print shows the head and shoulders of Jesus Christ in profile. He is leaning his head, which is crowned with thorns, and looking down towards the right. The entire composition is monochromatic, executed in a dull grey brown.
