DescriptionOfficial World War II artist and pioneer of modern British art, John Piper, often captured churches, landmarks, and damaged or destroyed buildings in the British landscape. Here he depicts a stone cross in Careby, a village in Lincolnshire. In the 1930s, Piper joined The London Group and exhibited alongside sculptors Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth.
