DescriptionThis intaglio print (etching) shows a scene of a young man in a pear tree, who has been surprised by an old man with a walking stick. There are two other men standing close to the old man watching the situation. Presumably the young man is stealing the pears: his left foot has slipped and he appears to be about to fall. The old man is waving his walking stick menacingly at the man in the tree. There is a ladder leaning against the tree and one of the rungs is broken. On the right is the corner of a thatched cottage, where the two onlookers are standing. There is a basket hanging on one of the branches of the tree.
