DescriptionThis is an intaglio print (etching and aquatint), with pencil additions creating a sketchy background landscape.

This print depicts two people engaged in cutting and gathering wood. The man, dressed in trousers, shirt and a floppy cap, leans over with a small curved knife in his upraised right hand, in the action of chopping a stick on an upturned log. A woman stands behind him looking on and holding a bundle of sticks. On the ground are more bundles of wood. The two figures are standing beside a small mound on which there is the stump of an old tree.
