DescriptionAs a pupil of the Slade School of Fine Art, Augustus John excelled at draughtsmanship. Although he hoped to be recognised for his large-scale compositions he was best known as a portrait painter and made his living from this work. A bohemian character, he travelled throughout the countryside in a gypsy caravan with his large family. This charmingly immediate work is a portrait of the artist’s son Robin. (JO'D)This painting shows a brown-eyed boy, Robin, with long brown hair combed forward into fringe. He is leaning on the arm of a chair and looks towards the viewer.
