DescriptionThis painting depicts the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick, as he climbs the mountain of Croagh Patrick. He is wearing a simple off-white habit with a plain brown belt. Flung over his shoulders is a dark green cloak with purple lining. His bearded face shows that he has been struck by a vision; his staff is falling from his right hand and his bell is dropping out of his left. The staff will land among a group of ducks, hidden among the course shrubs scattered across the landscape.
