DescriptionThis painting is executed in the Pre-Raphaelite manner of Edward Coley Burne-Jones. Venus emerges naked from a large inverted seashell, which is filled with earth covered in grass and small wild flowers. She steps with her right foot onto a craggy rock: clasping her arms around her bosom. Her long golden brown hair covers her in order to preserve her modesty. A group of winged cherubs with female faces peer over the edge of the seashell. The background shows a rough cliff face plunging into a turquoise coloured sea in the middle distance.
