DescriptionOn account of his Irish parentage, Charles Shannon was included as a painter of the Irish School when the Gallery opened in 1908. He studied at London’s City and Guilds Art School, where he met his lifelong partner, Charles Rickettst. When this gallery opened The American Magazine of Art wrote, “Had the Municipal Gallery contained nothing fine save Mr. Shannon’s ‘Portrait of Mrs. Hacon’ and his ‘The Bunch of Grapes’… the Museum would still have been memorable”. 'The Bunch of Grapes' depicts Mrs. Mildmay and her daughter.
