DescriptionThe central figure in this watercolour, with a halo and hands raised above his head, is most likely Moses calling the waters of the Red Sea to fall back and destroy the army of the Pharaoh. The Pharaoh’s soldiers are depicted with just their heads and shoulders, appearing above the waves of the returning water. They are wearing armour and helmets. This watercolour design is heavily stylised with thick outlines as it was intended to be a stained glass window. The drawing is a design for the 'Passage of the Red Sea' stained glass window at Kirkcaldy Old Parish Kirk, Kirkcaldy, Scotland. The window was created at Morris and Company, Merton Abbey, Surrey.
