DescriptionEdward Martyn (1859-1923), with Yeats and Lady Gregory, founded the Irish Literary Theatre in 1899, and wrote his play 'The Heather Field' for it. He was also one of the founders of An Túr Gloine, Sarah Purser's stained glass studio; and was instrumental in bringing leading contemporary artists to the new Cathedral in Loughrea, in the early years of the 20th century, to design windows, banners and sculptures. A shy, retiring man, who lived on his own at Tullyra Castle, County Galway, he was satirized by George Moore in 'Hail and Farewell', as well as by Gifforrd.On View
