DescriptionWhite and Orange Device is one of a group of works from the early 1960s that reflect Patrick Scott’s dismay at the detonation of atomic bombs, also called devices. The circular form in this painting and in other works in this series, such as Large Solar Device, evokes the mushroom clouds generated by such explosions, which loom over a horizon line.
