DescriptionJacob Maris was one of three Dutch brothers to become painters. Maris studied in The Hague and Antwerp, worked in Paris and became one of the leaders of the Hague School. This work, which may have been painted while Maris was in Paris, is full of charming details such as the light reflecting off the girl’s pearl necklace, earrings and the flowers in her hair. In the background is a town, possibly
Montigny-sur-Loing. (JO'D)
