DescriptionThis is a two colour intaglio (etching and aquatint) on paper. This print is inked up using the á la poupée method, whereby, different coloured inks are used on the same plate. In the background of this print there is a dress covered in bees, with the back of a girl's head visible in the foreground. The girl's hair stands straight out on either side of her head. Maher takes inspiration from nature, a lasting influence from her childhood spent in Co. Tipperary, as well as folklore. Hair is also very significant in Maher's work and is used with feminist connotations in mind. The bee-covered dress seen in this print is very similar to her sculpture 'Bee Dress' made in the same year (in the collection of the Arts Council Northern Ireland).
