DescriptionWhile Leech painted many self-portraits in his garden at Candy Cottage in Surrey, here the landscape and portrait painter has depicted himself energetically at work in his studio there. Leech had an interest in unusual viewpoints. Un Matin in this Collection is one such example. Many of Leech's paintings also had a strong diagonal emphasis and this work is no exception. The strong directional interior light here is in contrast to the sun drenched exteriors of much of his most famous work. (JO'D)
