Brian Maguire
Brian Maguire studied at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin and has had numerous one-person exhibitions during the 1980s and 1990s. He has frequently represented Ireland in group shows and his work is included in many public and private collections in Ireland. Today he is recognised as one of the most important Irish Expressionist painters of the younger generation. His work both in its imagery and in its style is often aggressive and highly confrontational. The themes that occupy him concern the issues surrounding the isolation and alienation of the individual in society. This is represented in his work through images of isolated beings trapped within the framework of social life. Politics, sex, the Catholic church, life in Ireland and various forms of repression are among the topics that inform his work.
