Robert Ballaghb. 1943

Born in Dublin in 1943, Robert studied architecture at the College of Technology on Bolton Street. He began painting in 1967 when he assisted Michael Farrell with a commissioned work for the National Bank. He was influenced by International Pop Art and was concerned with contemporary social and political issues. He used the technique of repetitive use of a silk-screened photograph. A series of pictures of people, life-size, looking at paintings gained him international recognition. He is best known for his autobiographical images of himself, his family, his house and street.
