Michael Ayrton

Born in London in 1921. He was educated in England, France and Austria, returning home in 1939. That same year he exhibited at the Zwemmer Gallery. During the 1940s he created a series of landscapes in a neo-romantic style. As well as being an accomplished painter, sculptor and ethcher, Michael had a diverse career as an art critic, art historian, novelist, broadcaster, theatrical designer and film director.
