Michael Ashur
Michael Ashur was born in Ireland in 1950 and is one of Ireland's best-known contemporary painters. He has had numerous successful one-man exhibitions with the David Hendrik's Gallery and the Arts Council Gallery, Belfast between the years 1974 and 1987. He has also successfully participated in group shows, including the Irish Exhibition of Living Art, the Oireachtas Art Exhibition, the Ulster Museum and the RHA, among others. He represented Ireland in the International Festival of Painting in Cages-sur-Mer, France in 1981 and his contribution was voted the most popular work in the exhibition by public vote. His works are characterised by their large scale, striking use of colour and highly technical composition. His mathematical precision serves to blur the lines between the domains of art and science, with the solar system and celestial objects comprising a significant source of inspiration for him.
