James Coleman

James Coleman was born in Ballaghadereen, Co. Roscommon in 1941. He studied at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris and the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, Milan. His works are mainly site-specific installations that demand the active engagement of the viewer and have as their basis a direct inter-relationship between media, form and content. Since the 1970s he has explored the creative possibilities of audio-visual technology and has regularly used actors for video or stage presentations.
