DescriptionThis is a four colour intaglio print (aquatint and engraving) on paper. It is a view of Dublin bay and city as seen from Marino in 1817. This print is mostly aquatint creating the many different tones, different areas are inked up in different coloured inks, this is known as the à la poupée method. Very fine engraved lines are used to delineate the horizon line and the houses and buildings in the background.

Havell came from a family of engravers, etchers and printers with a print shop in London in the early decades of the 19th century.
