DescriptionForain studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and had a particular interest in the work of Goya and Rembrandt. His early career saw him working as a caricaturist for journals such as Le Scapin and La Vie Parisienne. Forain drew on the legal and theatrical worlds inspiration for the subject matter of much of his work. L’Assistance Judiciaire reveals Forain’s skill in capturing the vulnerability, poverty and steadfastness of the young family among the huddled legal consultations surrounding them. (JO'D)
