DescriptionThis is a three colour relief print (lino). An image of a single seed placed vertically into the ground, with roots beginning to emerge on either side in stylised swirls, roughly forming figures of eight. Colouring predominantly greenish brown. From early boyhood, Guy was intrigued with other cultures. He was particularly struck by Northwest Coast Native American carvings, with their soft-cornered squares and ovoid eyes, and flashes of color set against woody earth browns. The juxtapositions of shape and color sank deep into his consciousness, to re-emerge years later in his own pictorial vocabulary, having melded with motifs from Indo-European mythology.
