DescriptionThis is a landscape scene showing a group of shepherds in the left foreground taking sheep from a large flock and dipping them in a river. The sheep are coming out of the river on the opposite bank, dripping wet. The shepherds have set up a tent under a tree in the foreground. The style and execution of the painting show the influence of Italianate scenes popular in the 18th and early 19th century.
