DescriptionFounded in 1824 the Shelbourne Hotel has been at the centre of many historic events. The years 1906-1913 were tremendously successful and the number of overseas visitors rapidly increased. During the 1916 Easter Rising the hotel remained loyal to Crown forces although some of its workers took advantage of the panorama from the hotel’s rooftop to signal to rebel forces. By the middle of the week following the Easter Rising, the wounded from these very forces were being treated in the hotel. The Shelbourne was also the setting for the historic drafting of the Irish Constitution, under the chairmanship of Michael Collins, in 1922.
