DescriptionThis is an intaglio print (etching and drypoint) on paper, after the original engraving designed by William Hogarth.

It is reported that the subject of this satirical etching is Hogarth's shortsighted friend, Ebenezer Forrest. A lacemaker and politician, Forrest is here portrayed reading his newspaper while he inadvertently sets fire to his hat.
