DescriptionAnne Madden has produced a distinctive body of work with themes that include the landscape of the Burren, prehistoric megaliths, the architecture of Pompeii, the stories of Icarus and Odysseus, and the Aurora Borealis. Later works were inspired by the cultural heritage, landscapes and myths of Ireland and Europe, including Crete. Waves is dominated by Madden’s sensual and dramatic use of colour which is consistent throughout her work. The painting was exhibited at the 2017 Hugh Lane Gallery exhibition, Colours of the Wind, whose concept centred on the myth of Ariadne.
