DescriptionPerceived Lightness was part of the 2016 exhibition Liam Gillick: What’s What in a Mirror? at Hugh Lane Gallery. The work reflects on the function of a museum and how it locates itself in relation to history. By encouraging visitors to sit at the desk and engage in an activity, such as, work, read or just look in the mirror, it invites one into a space of self-examination. A short book consisting of texts compiled by Gillick accompanied the desks. They contrast research papers on self-image and a traditional Japanese story of vanity and excessive pride.
