DescriptionThis is an intaglio print (etching) on paper depicting a mother nursing her child. They are depicted outside in a field, where hay has recently been saved. It appears that that woman has been working in the fields and has stopped to feed her child. Lhermitte was known for memorising scenes he viewed during walks and returning to his studio where he would capture the images he saw. This is the opposite of the en plein air method that was favoured by the Impressionists.On View
